The perfect turnout for unpredictable Winter weather, with Horseware's Vari-Layer Technology (which means more warmth with less weight)! An innovative turnout, the Rhino Wug Vari-Layer Heavy Turnout features Rhino Barrier Technology, a high neck cut design and provides more warmth with less weight, including 450g of Vari-Layer thermobonded fiberfill. This durable waterproof sheet will add breathable protection from wet weather without causing your horse to overheat.
In a standard horse blanket, the majority of heat is lost from the back and hip areas. Horseware's Vari-Layer design combats this via a layered blanket with increased fiberfill across those key areas that wrap closely around your horse, for longer lasting heat retention with less weight overall.
What makes the Rhino so special? Most horse turnouts have the waterproof coating applied directly to the the outer layer. The innovative Rhino Barrier Technology takes a different approach, as it actually places the Waterproof Barrier Layer with AquaTrans coating on a separate inside layer, just underneath the durable outer layer. This means that if the outer layer is damaged, the waterproof barrier below will still protect your horse.
Additionally, this turnout features a strong 1000D polypropylene outer layer. Polypropylene is 50-100% stronger than the coated polyester from which the majority of turnouts are made. Against your horse's coat is an anti-static, anti-bacterial polyester lining, that will enhance shine, smooth your horse's coat and prevent rubbing and slippage.
The Rhino Wug Vari-Layer Turnout features a high cut neck design for a snug fit that eliminates wither pressure with a V-front closure to give freedom of movement to graze, leg arches, hood and liner loops, shine enhancing polyester lining, reflective strips and cross surcingles. Hoods and liners are not compatible due to the high neck cut.
“Rhino’s barrier technology make it the perfect winter turnout blanket for my horses. Winter blankets take a beating, and Rhino always withstands the worst of winter days season after season.” - Sam Watson, International Eventer

How to Fit Your Blanket
Using a soft measuring tape, measure from (A) at the center point of the chest, across the point of the shoulder and to the point (B) at the center of the tail. When you have the measurement, remove 4 inches (10 cm) and choose that as your horse's size. Bear in mind that every horse is different and that this measurement is a guide only. We carry many different styles to suit all shapes and sizes. To learn more how to fit your horse click here.
Blanket Weights
Turnouts and blankets come in a vareity of weights. To make it easy, Horseware has created this temperature scale to serve as a general guide. Turnouts act as a waterproof insulator layer, helping to maintain condition in cold weather. Stable blankets are not waterproof and simply provide insulation for warmth. Please be aware that conditions may vary in a short time span, and always ensure your horse is comfortable at all times. To learn more about blanket weights click here.
